So we made it back to Melbourne! 🚀 Sailo So we made it back to Melbourne! 🚀Sailor got a last minute call-in for work this week so I decided to hop down for a quick vacation. I always love coming back! We lived here before so it feels a bit like a second home and it was awesome catching up with old friends. It was about the same time last year that we last visited, so I couldn't wait to see how things have changed. The mood was a bit more sombre and it was such a shame to see so many business that sadly didn't make it through Covid. 😷 But hey Melbourne, I can see lots of cautious optimism and relief, you're doing well you beauty, keep it up!〜After days of typical Melbourne weather, I captured this shot on our last night when the sun ☀️ finally made an appearance. Southbank looks purdy in the summer sun don't ya think. 🌻..#melbournesouthbank #melbourneiloveyou #melbstagram #yarrariver #melbournecity #melburnian #melbourneinsta #melbmoment #melbournecityscape #visitvictoria #stayclosegofurther #seeaustralia #travelmermaid 🧜🏼‍♀️ #travel_mermaid

OMG, coral babies arrived in Port Douglas! 👶🏼After the massive coral spawning over the weekend along the Great Barrier Reef 🐠, we took a stroll along Four Mile Beach and found these colourful orange, yellow, pink, and green pools of water. How cool!So it turns out that from this biggest orgy on earth this is what's left, huge bundles of coral baby larva. Each year between October and December, this incredible natural phenomenon takes place across the Great Barrier Reef. Just a few days after a full moon 🌕 when the sea is warm and conditions are perfect, coral reefs simultaneously release tiny eggs and sperm over a few days ready to be fertilised. #CueBarryWhiteFor the first time this year we got to watch it on telly thanks to @abctv and it looks like an underwater snowstorm. Marine biologists say this year's spawning is the biggest on the reef in decades which is incredible news, particularly since it faced a third mass bleaching event this year due to climate change. It was also truly inspiring to hear about the extraordinary work that scientists are doing to adapt & sustain the GBR during the challenges of today. 🧬🙌🏼Head over to #ReefLiveAU on @abctv to get a glimpse of what it's all about, link in bio. ..#coralbabies #portdouglas #fourmilebeach #eyeonthereef #tropicalnorthqueensland #coralspawning2020 #oceanlife #greatbarrierreef #coralreefs #spawning #queensland #thisisqueensland #exploretnq #australia 🇦🇺 #gbrlegacy #australiagram #travelmermaid 🧜🏼‍♀️ #travel_mermaid

It's beginning to look a lot like a hot and palmy It's beginning to look a lot like a hot and palmy tropical Chrimbo 🌴🍾🎄Happy for the sprouting of decorations around town to inject some festive spirit. 🤶🏼 Even after six years in the tropics, it still doesn't quite feel like Christmas for me when it's busting 30+ outside! With family so far too, traditions have dwindled a bit these days, but I do love the chance to get outdoors, hit the road & explore somewhere new. In a couple of weeks we're excited to dust off the cobwebs and venture out of our little bubble to see more of sunny Queensland. 😎 I love living in the Sunshine State and haven't travelled far in the past year, so can't wait to experience more of this incredible coastline. We'll be heading south in a campervan (we're CV newbies) stopping at a number of spots along the way to kiteboard (wind pending!), find epic landscapes, adventures and support local businesses. It should be fun.Very lucky to have booked it all back in August too as things booked out pretty fast! What are your plans for the festive period? I hope you're all keeping safe, well and out of trouble. 😉 Sending a festive cheer 🎉..#tropicalchristmas #portdouglasdaintree #portdouglas #exploretnq #thisisqueensland #seeaustralia #holidayherethisyear #summergreat #adventurenearnotfar #loveaustralia #australiagram #explorequeensland #queensland #travelmermaid 🧜🏼‍♀️ #travel_mermaid

Beach life 🦀 For my birthday a few week Beach life 🦀 For my birthday a few weeks ago we took a mini vacay to Mission Beach, just 3 hours south of Port Douglas. I loved the vibes. It's uber chilled, beachy, a bit hippy and the locals are so friendly, it reminded us a lot of being in Thailand! Pictured first is Kurrimine Beach which we visited for the morning. I read that it has the largest fringing reef on the Great Barrier Reef so during king low tides you can take a 40-minute walk to see the coral which is pretty cool.I didn't realise it was only between June & September so we missed out, but there was still so much life here to gawp over.Next time we'll be back for the reef walk, more rainforest strolls and kiteboarding - how awesome would this flatwater spot be?!.#kurriminebeach #cassowarycoast #farnorthqueensland #exploretnq #beachlife #downbythesea #australia #australianbeaches #queenslandcaptures #seeaustralia #travelmermaid 🧜🏼‍♀️ #travel_mermaid
