Ruuk Village is different in many ways, the property is stretched out in a coconut plantation and has a space of around 9000sqm, its bigger than a football field. But the number of cabanas are limited to 8, this leaves enough space for every guest to experience a personalized holiday at an affordable price. We at Ruuk Village clearly distant ourselves from mass tourism. Before a traveler makes a reservation, we expect a traveler to be aware of this very sensitive reasoning. Project's main responsibility to allow travelers and the locals to come together to develop an authentic Sri Lankan experience. And we promote responsible and sustainable traveling in Sri Lanka. We make sure the local team keeps on improving their service competence levels. We take responsibility to groom local kiters to take up teaching, to allow foreign income to stay in the country and to develop the local community indirectly. A Sri Lankan born, finished school, served the country for 5 years before moving further. Have had the opportunity to finish higher studies in Europe. In year 2011 travelled to Sri Lanka on holidays ( learn kite surfing) to Kalpitiya, close to nature and fell in love the first day. And that was the beginning of this social oriented project with the main purpose of "empowering" locals to have a fair share of the tourism with a minimum foot print on social lives. Strongly believes in small scale social development. Have got together with "Thileeban" to create a small paradise away from all the negative aspects of mass tourism. Both sponsors are not working in Sri Lanka but are Sri Lankans who have left their hearts in Kalpitiya. There is only a sand road, and if you don’t have a 4x4 drive, then we pick you up with our boat from the small fishing boat’s jetty. Depending on the tide, you might have to get out of the boat and walk around 20 - 30 meters through the lagoon mud, which is not dirt but healthy salt lagoon mud. which guarantees a sustainable fishing / maturing ground for the fish population of the lagoon. We are completely isolated from any external disturbances, providing you an excellent atmosphere to relax and enjoy your holidays.
